want to be an actor? read this first!
Astrology is the most
effective form of predicting future – Bejan Daruwalla
Astrology guru Bejan
Daruwalla speaks about the scientific validity of astrology in an actor’s life!
What
is Astrology?
Astrology definitely works
because every person has a horoscope and planets and their positions are
supposed to affect human behavior. There is special planet called Venus which
is the official planet that represents acting, fine arts, clothes, jewellery
and perfumes. It is associated with all the good things of life. Astrology
plays a vital role in shaping your acting career and can help you 25% to change things
your way. The number 6 represents Venus and is associated with good luck,
fortune, beautiful women, great movies and superstars.
When I add somebody’s name to
his/her digit and if that person’s Shukra (Venus) is weak, then that person
should wear diamond as it will definitely help. Astrology can tell you the
prosperous years in your life and when you should explore things in life. It helps
you to decide the correct path in life but there is no substitute for hard
work. It helps you to be in the correct profession at the correct time. In
simple words, it helps
people to achieve their goals by installing confidence in them and making them
believe in themselves.
Different
stars, different beliefs!
Producer N.N. Sippy had asked me
whether he should give Subhash Ghai his first break as a director for the film Kalicharan.
Krishna Raj Kapoor had consulted
me during the film Bobby because Raj
Kapoor was in crisis of work during that time.
I was the official astrologer for
actor Prem Nath for seven years and even stayed at his house.
Even music composer Anu Malik believes in astrology.
Rishi Kapoor and the entire Kapoor family is a firm believer of
astrology but never admit openly. Karisma, kareena and Saif Ali Khan believe in
horoscope reading.
Mahesh Bhatt doesn’t believe in anything. He faces life as it
comes along.
Each color has a
meaning
Black is a color of Saturn which brings stagnation in life. When
you do something positive in life you should wear golden or red color clothes.
They are bright colors and bring good thoughts in you.
Astrology is the most
effective form
The most safest and effective form of predicting future is by
seeing a kundli (horoscope). It is like sitting in a driver’s seat and driving
the car. I enjoy horoscope reading the most. I have ESP - extra sensory
perceptions through which I get vibrations and lord Ganesha speaks with me. My
entire success is devoted to lord Ganesha. If you are in any creative field, it
is necessary to worship any form of deity.
Importance of stones
Stones can help you up to 10% in life. Diamond stones are very
helpful for acting. The Mangal (mars) stone can make you strong like Salman Khan.
The Moon stone helps you enhance your memory and remember dialogues better and
perform emotional scenes effectively. If somebody is into mythological films,
then he/she should wear Pukhraj (Jupiter). And a newcomer should wear Moti (pearl).
Next big superstar
Ranbir Kapoor will give a very
tuff competition to the Khan’s and stand strong as a pillar.
Katrina Kaif mein dum hai.
(Katrina looks very powerful).
Top predictions
There have been times where my
predictions have gone wrong, especially in the field of politics. People think
if I am an astrologer, I am god. But my predictions in films usually turn out
to be right.
Salman Khan has tremendous five
years to go for his career. I fell in love with him when I interacted with him
during Bigg Boss. He is immensely handsome. He will get married within two
years of time.
Shahrukh Khan is a true scorpion. He may not be a muscle man but
is more powerful than any well built man in the world as he derives energy
within the heart.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will still act in movies after her first
baby. Her child might grown up to be an actor/actress.
Astrologers can
predict their own future
Yes they can. I have good three-four years to work. Also there is
no limitation while predicting anyone’s future. A lot of astrologers just give
hint without disclosing the person’s name as they do not want the person to be stressed
out.
The limit of belief
Every person should refer to his planetary period and directions
of the stars and should accordingly plan their future. If you find astrology
into everything, you will become mad.
Interview with Anushka Sharma
I have genuine fondness for Ranveer:
Anushka Sharma
Anushka Sharma talks to Varun Vazir
about her latest film Ladies vs Ricky
Bahl which released on December 9. Excerpts:
The new lucky mascot of YRF banner,
the sizzling Anushka Sharma will set the silver screen on fire with Ladies vs Ricky Bahl. But it looks like
she had to shed a lot of weight for this film, she arguably says, “I always had
a very lean and a slim body. People have always seen me in a salwar kameez in
which my body was barely visible. This weight loss issue has been stretching
things too far. The last article I read spoke about me being anorexic and I
take a lot of offence in that. I used to be an athlete in school and have a
high metabolic rate so it’s natural for me to be this way”.
She further continues, “I don’t mind
people writing about my profession but not about my personal life. My family
reads it and I am answerable to them. I am a woman and if something is written
in a demeaning manner, it affects me”.
Anushka has developed fondness for
Ranveer over the past one year, “We were not familiar during Band Bajaa… and did not understand each
other’s working space. This time it was way more comfortable. There is a lot
more respect for each other. Ranveer
really inspires me in many ways and he’s so driven as an actor. He is very
passionate about what he does. I can’t imagine doing anything else apart from
acting. I have genuine fondness for him. We have a very good on-screen
chemistry. Chemistry is not created by actors; it is created by script and the
characters”, she said.
Anushka who has majorly done YRF films
says, “I’ve done a Patiala House too
and my next is with Vishal Bharadwaj. But honestly, till Band Bajaa…they were the only ones who showed faith in me, they
have backed me so much that I will continue to work with them till I remain an
actor”. Anushka who will also been in an YRF film which is directed by the
maestro Yash Chopra himself, “I am dying to work with Yash Chopra. I am so
fortunate that I am getting to be a heroine in his film”, she said excitedly.
Anushka who is doing Vishal Bharadwaj’s next Matru Ki
Bijlee Ka Mandola says, “Vishal (Bharadwaj) is an actor’s
delight. I become a child in front of him. He is such a calm person. He invests
a lot in his actors and makes you understand things in a beautiful manner”.
The actress has been in the news for a
tussle with Katrina Kaif over a makeup artist, “I will never ever reach a stage
where I have to be in any kind of tussle with Katrina Kaif. I genuinely respect
her lot because she is not from a filmy world and has maintained her strength
here. I am also doing a film with her”, she said.
Anushka who has been doing
back-to-back films definitely needs a much awaited break, “I would love to
visit Ananda in Hrishikesh. I go there alone occasionally and do some
meditation to get some peace of mind.” she concludes.

this is the ad film I made along with my group on ElektroGum for XIC...hope you like it...
my encounter with John Abraham
today i'd like to share the story behind this picture of mine with John Abraham.
I remember i was working with JAM magazine as a feature writer and i had begun to do celebrity interviews and really enjoyed it. one day, i randomly happen to call UTV for John's interview for his movie Aashayein. the PR person spoke to me very rudely and just hung up on me saying, "sorry no interview". i felt really humiliated and felt maybe this happened because my publication wasn't a big brand but still this wasn't a way of treating anybody.
i knew i had to take an action against this and revert back with an answer. so i went back home fuming and thought what could i do?????? i wasn't a fan of him in anyway but i had to do something so i began writing a letter to john abraham as to why should he give me an interview and i wrote a sweet letter and dropped it with his watchman..........
27th sept, 2011
here's the letter i wrote to john
Dear John,

ok today when i read this mail i feel its really lame.
wanna know whether he replied back to this???
i dropped this letter and was walking towards my gym and suddenly my phone rings and the screen says "private number calling" and i was super excited. i picked up the call and guess what, it was actually john abraham on the other side. he really liked the letter and felt it was sweet of me to do so and immediately agreed for an interview. so he told me to call him the next day for the interview. i called up my cinematographer friend home and i prepared all my questions, my nice clothes, began rehearsing and i was all set to interview him. the next day, i did not receive any call or msg from his side. out of anxiety i called him but he did not pick up and he msgd saying, 'i said i will call u varun'. the whole day passed by but he did not call back.....
his next movie 'jhootha hi sahi' released and still was not able to give me time for an interview....
in next couple of months i was jobless so there was no point in approaching him....but again in few months i began writing for www.mumbaimirror.com and this time i did not want to let go this opportunity. as soon as i came to know he has a movie 'force' releasing, i messaged him and guess what, he called me back? this again continued for few days. he would tell me to come to his house to chill that evening but work would keep him busy. i kept pestering him and his assistant. his assistant would call back and say that john really wants to meet u but its just not being possible for him and he is feeling guilty. And one day when i was in college rehearsing for a play, i get a call from his assistant saying, ''u hv one hr, plz come to mehboob studio, he'd like to meet you..."
i left st. Xavier college and ran for my life. i couldn't believe its actually happening. i had waited for a year for this to happen. i entered mehboob studio, spraying deodorant, folding my sleeves to match his biceps and spiking my hair properly. i see his van parked and his assistant immediately guided me to his van.
the door opens and woahhh he is right in front of me. he greets me sweetly and gives me water to drink as i was panting, without wasting a moment, i began shooting my questions on him...
i came out smiling from his van. it felt like an achievement and realized that whenever u really want something to happen, just stick to it, no matter how long it takes, it will happen for sure (ok i mite sound a lil preachy right now..lol)
here's the link of the interview with him - http://mumbaimirror.com/article/30/2011092920110929155324895942140bf/I-like-the-idea-of-marriage-John-Abraham.html

I like the idea of marriage: John Abraham
Varun Vazir | MM Online Bureau
After giving two back-to-back flops, the dimple-cheeked actor John Abraham speaks to exclusively to MM.com on his upcoming flick Force, about his experimenting with films, what it was like working with Nishikanth Kamath, his reaction to false stories and his lover boy image!
Your last two films (Aashayein and Jhootha Hi Sahi) did not do too well. What are your expectations with Force? We’ve been smart enough to contain the budget of the film which is very important. If the film does well even on the first three days of its release, we are through. Tomorrow you may watch it and tell me that it did not do too well, I don’t know how a film will do. When I do a film, I put in a lot of hard work and am emotionally connected to that film. Films usually fail because of wrong promotions or because they are bad films. I am happy with the kind of job I did in those two films and I am proud of both the films. Since Force is based on a Tamil film Kaakha Kaakha, how different is the treatment from the original? The treatment is completely different as compared to the original one but we’ve taken the basic idea of the film that there is a ‘no nonsense’ cop who doesn’t believe in love, yet he falls in love with a girl and kills both the gangster and his brother, who kidnapped the girl. There is a linear storyline but no actual similarity except the romantic bit. There have been many cop-based films in the recent past. How different is this one? I play the role of ACP Yashvardhan, a cop in plain clothes. He’s a narcotic bureau cop and not the typical cop. He believes in real raw action something which Sunny Deol had in Dacait, Ghayal and Arjun Pandit. You go out an out to promote your films. Please comment. I do sensible films, at least I believe so. Force is a sensible film and needs to be promoted righty. Promotions play a very important role today. You may have gone to watch ten films and might have not liked at least nine out of them because people do go to watch a film because of its hype. How was the working experience with Nishikant Kamath? Nishikanth (Kamath) is known to be a critical director rather than a commercial director. I think we both have done an experiment with this film. My solo films are usually experimental films and Nishikanth’s films are non-commercial films and we got together and decided to make a commercial film and that’s an experiment in itself. We’ve done a great job and the film looks great. Would you agree that you’ve tasted success more with commercial films? I know for a fact that films like Desi Boyz and Housefull 2 will be runaway hits. I know these are commercial films and a lot of people tell me that I’ve got the face and the body to be a commercial actor. But I think it’s sometimes good to experiment. I still think No Smoking is one of my most favorite films and will always be a cult film. How do you react to criticism and rumours being printed about you? Sometimes it’s done for publicity or publicity towards the film but I don’t react to it anymore. It does affect me but I just decide to be responsible when I speak and make sure that my words are not misconstrued. When I read something that I haven’t even said, I take it with a pinch of salt. You have being linked with many women especially after becoming single. How are you taking that? You think I am linked-up? I don’t think so. I don’t even like to have such an image. I am concerned about the person in me as I am a stable guy. Honestly, I’ve been very conservative and I like long and stable relationships. I like the idea of marriage. So link-ups don’t really help my case. I think women find stable men much more attractive and hope that’s the reason why women find me attractive. Are you looking for love at the present? No, I am not. |

Interview with Dev Saab
I am a loner: Dev Anand
Varun Vazir, TNN | Oct 1, 2011, 10.20AM IST
Legendary actor Dev Anand exclusively talks with MM.com about his latest release Chargesheet!
Chargesheet made at a budget of 12-14 lakhs has extensively been shot in Mahabaleshwar over a period of one and a half years. The film includes star cast like Dev Anand, Naseeruddin Shah, Jacky Shroff and Divya Dutta among few newcomers. Chargesheet is written, produced and directed by Dev Anand and releases on September 30.
How has the journey been so far?
I joined the film industry in 1945 and it's been six decades since then and I am improving and progressing along with the passage of time. My work keeps me going and I feel elevated each time I release a film. I am very happy with my latest release Chargesheet which is a murder mystery.
How did you develop your unique style?
I am this way since the time Prabhat Film Company gave me my first break and I am glad people love it. It's not a put on or a deliberate attempt. And, yes, I still smile the same way (Smiles).
How do you manage to maintain the 'evergreen' image of yours?
I don't maintain an image, maybe I look that way (Smiles). It's because I've never grown a beard and never will. It's not deliberate at all. I never hide my age. When I play a role, I play my age.
You've acted, written, produced and directed this film. How did you go about doing all this?
I will not make a film without Dev Anand. If a role demands me and my age then I will always act. Filmmaking is a very expensive hobby as a lot of money is involved. If you make a good film, you feel like the master of the world. You have to be alive all the time or else you are finished.
When did you decide to make Chargesheet?
I was in America and wanted to do a film called Song Of Fire but nothing got executed. In the meanwhile, I wrote another script which I registered in the writers guild of America and came back to shoot a film called Beauty Queen in Nepal. Unfortunately the revolution took place where the king was dethroned. Later it struck me that I have never made a murder mystery and that's how I started making Chargesheet.
Don't you ever feel the need to cast mainstream stars over newcomers?
It's a great honor to work with big stars but when you make a film and if a script can include a few newcomers then why not. There's a huge line up of aspiring stars in this country. There is tremendous population of young boys and girls who have a hunger to showcase their talent. How many people give them breaks? Dev Anand is one of them.
What is your take on the contemporary commercial aspect of cinema?
I remember when films like Hare Rama Hare Krishna and Des Pardes had released, people walked up to me and said "Devsaab, people have been waiting to buy tickets since mid-night". These days a film does business in first few days and this is the new phenomenon as a lot of multiplexes have come up and the ticket prices have also gone up. One has to go with the time.
Why are you against the idea of remakes?
Why do you want to make a remake? So that you're sure that your film is a hit? But there is no guarantee. A remake means that you are bankrupt of ideas. A movie-man is an educated man and he is updated with all the news around him. There are so many ideas that come into your mind and one idea sticks with you and once you start exploring the idea, you should make it into a script.
What keeps Dev Anand going?
My own personality, thinking, optimism, positivity keeps me going. I am a loner. I am not in the crowd all the time. I socialize to meet new people and write about them. But you have to isolate yourself from the world when you're writing. I like to be all by myself. Mujhe maza aata hai. Padta hoon, likhta hoon, picture banata hoon. Picture banane ka maza hi kuch aur hai. (I like to read, write and make films. Filmmaking is a drug in itself).

Ranveer Singh not good
friends with Sonakshi Sinha
Actor Ranveer Singh
chats with Varun Vazir about his latest flick Ladies vs Ricky Bahl which released on December 9. Excerpts:
The Band Bajaa Baaraat fame Ranveer Singh who made a debut last year,
is back with his new release Ladies vs
Ricky Bahl and shares how things have changed over the past one year, “The
change was almost overnight. The pace of my life sped up. My phone started
ringing a lot more, I did not have time for a luxurious shower or a meal, I was
sleeping less and spent less time with my close ones but I am really happy
because I am thoroughly enjoying what I am doing”, he said.
Does he feel like a star already?
“No, I don’t know what it feels to be like a star. Life was easier earlier as I
had a lot of free time to relax. If you attach a luxurious pampered lifestyle
notion to a star, then I don’t have that. I still work like a dog and am a
normal guy who acts for a living”, he said.
Ranveer plays a role of a Con Man
in his next, he elaborates saying “Ricky Bahl is a Con Man who is smooth,
cunning, and sly. He will rob you and never see you again. He is not a
pickpocket or a petty thief, woh bahut
bada khiladi hai”.
Ladies vs Ricky Bahl has the same successful combination of Anushka
Sharma, Maneesh Sharma and the YRF banner and there is ought to be a lot more
expectation to fulfill, “Expectations and non-expectations both help the films.
During Band Bajaa Baaraat, Anushka
(Sharma) did not have many releases, YRF banner was going through a bad patch,
I was a completely new face and the director was new too. Band Bajaa...was an underdog film and people did not expect
anything which really helped the film. This time there are more expectations
with same team to tell a different story”, Ranveer said.
He shares a better equation with
Anushka Sharma in their second film together, “She will always be more
experienced and more senior actor. We are very connected as actors. We’ve been
linked together in the past because we had an extraordinary chemistry together.
She is that good an actor that she makes sure you feel the scene. We are in a
profession that has glamour attached to it and these things are inevitable. We
used to go out with a lot of common friends and that’s why people linked us
together”, he said.
In spite of being just a one film
old in film industry, Ranveer has continuously been in the news for his
outspoken behavior, “I don’t know any other way to speak than to speak what’s
in my heart. I am wired to speak that way. It would bother if I am deliberately
politically correct. If I have an opinion, I will express it. I don’t mean
malice to anyone. Yes, I am loud at times when I drink too much coffee (Smirks)”.
We lastly ask him about his
recent link-up with Sonakshi Sinha, “I am doing a film with her next called Lootera and honestly too much is been
written about us which is not even existing. I’ve hardly interacted with her on
four professional occasions. We are friends but not good friends”. He signs
off.
my interview with Amitabh Bachchan
I am not a method actor: Amitabh Bachchan

(A still from Bbuddah...Hoga Tera Baap More Pics )
He might be 69, but he's surely not the Bbuddah of Bollywood. The man who made his mark in the industry as the 'Angry Young Man' is back with the same image, after a gap of 40 years, with his forthcoming movie Bbuddah...Hoga Tera Baap.
What is this film all about?
My character in the film is called Viju, he's an ex-gangster from the city. As far as his character is concerned, he's flamboyant, arrogant and edgy, but at the same time, he is a very cool and relaxed kind of a guy. He's been living in Paris and runs his own clubs. Until he's called back to Mumbai for a mission. It's a lighthearted entertainment film; there's song, dance, humour and action. It covers everything I've done in the past, except that there's a difference of almost 40 years!
Would you term this film as a complete action film?
Everybody calls Deewaar an action film when there was just one fight scene in it (Laughs). It's about one's perception. It does, however, have all the elements of a commercial film.
Did you have any inhibitions about the audience accepting you in this avatar?
I would rather pay more attention to the script, to the maker, to my own role and then worry about what the audience thinks. There have been few instances in the past where I have gone wrong. When I did Nishabd and RGV'S Aag, people didn't watch the films purely because my roles were negative and they can't imagine me doing something like that. While I enjoyed those roles, I think these factors do count. As an actor, I will have a desire to play many diverse roles but sometimes when I do something against the audience's temperament, they do get disturbed.
How necessary is it for an actor to relate to the kind of roles he plays?
There are two different schools of thought as far as acting is concerned. Either you go through the methodology of method acting where you believe that you are in the character you are playing. And then you are reminded of this fantastic instance from the film Marathon Man where Laurence Olivier said to Dustin Hoffman "You should try acting, my boy. It's much easier". I don't know how to get into method acting. There were few occasions in my earlier films when I perhaps tried something like that, but it didn't work out.
Do you think the information overload about films during releases creates fatigue for viewers and readers?
The medium of communication has increased and everybody wants to use it. Earlier, it was only restricted to advertisements on screen-paper and hand-painted posters. Today, a destiny of a film is revealed within six hours after its release. With all due respect, none of the films are remembered more than a week or two later. It's the rapidity with which communication is increasing that's changing the way we think. Today, viewers don't want to hear two-page dialogues, one line is enough.
What are your views on escapist cinema?
I went abroad for the first time in 1973 and since then Hindi cinema has been described as escapist. I feel (pauses) irritated. I want our country to be known as a developed nation. And often enough, everywhere you go, everybody in the west will pronounce our language in a manner that is convenient to them. It is always a comparison to somebody in their hemisphere. They call Shahrukh Khan theBrad Pitt of India. Why should they? He is the Shahrukh Khan. Period. Tumhara hoga yaar koi Brad Pitt, humko kya maloom. Usko bolo ki India mein aake Chinchpokli mein ghume, koi pehchaanega bhi nahi (You may have a Brad Pitt, we don't know. Tell him to walk on the streets in India, nobody would even recognise him). I hate the word 'Bollywood' but now since it's been registered in the Oxford dictionary, I guess, we're stuck with it.
How do you keep yourself updated on the internet?
When people respond to me on twitter, blog, etc. and if I do not understand a particular word, I ask Abhishek (Bachchan) and he guides me through it. You know young people use words like "LOL and ROFL". Kabhi kabhi toh pata nahi chalta ki yeh bol kya rahe hai (sometimes I do not understand what they are saying). And I need to be updated because if tomorrow somebody writes to me like this, I want to make sure he/she is not abusing me (Smiles).
And how is the grandfather-to-be feeling at the moment?
